Bridgeport church raises Alzheimer's awareness during World Alzheimer's Month

A Bridgeport church is using faith and community to help raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease during World Alzheimer's Month.
At East End Baptist Tabernacle, Rev. Charlie Stallworth is encouraging families to learn more about the disease and seek support when facing a diagnosis.
"It's important to build awareness, let people know we have to be checked, and then to know you don't have to walk the journey alone with your loved ones," Stallworth said. "There are other organizations and other people who have been through this who are willing to stand with you."
Stallworth shared the message with his congregation, emphasizing that while Alzheimer's can affect memory, the love and support of family, friends and community remain strong.
According to the Alzheimer's Association, more than 7 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer's disease. Stallworth said early awareness and regular health screenings are important first steps in taking control of brain health.
World Alzheimer's Month is observed each September to increase understanding of the disease, reduce stigma and connect families with education and support services.
