A Hartford man is facing numerous charges after Thomaston police say they uncovered an elaborate fraud scam responsible for more than $33,000 in fraudulent bank withdrawals.
Police say the investigation began when the Thomaston Savings Bank fraud department alerted authorities to possible fraud. With assistance from several agencies, investigators say they uncovered a scheme involving forged documents, identity theft and impersonation.
Authorities allege 25-year-old Bryan David Sheriff used the fraudulent tactics to steal more than $33,000 through unauthorized bank withdrawals.
Sheriff was arrested Wednesday and charged with multiple offenses, including larceny, conspiracy, identity theft, forgery and trafficking in personal information, among others.
Police say an additional arrest warrant has been issued for a co-conspirator.
