A deep sense of grief filled the east side of Bridgeport Friday as Department of Transportation workers, loved ones and people from across the globe gathered to say their final farewell to 60-year-old Elvin Hernandez.
Mourners came together at Luz De Paz Funeral Home near Washington Park to pay their respects to the beloved local DOT worker.
Hernandez was killed on the morning of Sept. 25 on Interstate 95 South near Fairfield when an allegedly impaired driver veered onto the right shoulder and struck him while he was clearing highway debris.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal attended the services, honoring Hernandez's lifetime of public service and calling for more rigorous enforcement of Connecticut "Move Over" laws in his memory.
