A driver was hospitalized and two Franklin Lakes police officers sustained minor injuries early Tuesday after a vehicle struck an unoccupied patrol car and overturned on Route 208 North while officers were investigating an earlier deer-related crash.

According to police, while officers were investigating the incident, a second vehicle collided with an unoccupied Franklin Lakes police patrol vehicle that was positioned at the scene. The impact caused the second vehicle to flip over.

Police at the scene worked to extricate the driver, who was transported to a local hospital for "unknown injuries." The two officers also suffered minor injuries while pulling the driver out of the car.

Authorities closed the highway for several hours as emergency crews responded and cleared the scene. Traffic on the northbound side of Route 208 was diverted onto Summit Avenue.

In addition to police, local EMS crews, officers from the Wyckoff Police Department and a crew from the Department of Transportation also responded to the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
