Three Bridgeport firefighters said instincts kicked in when they helped deliver a baby at a home last Friday. Officials say the men were sent to the Yale Street residence on a medical call. Firefighter David Gasso says the medics had not yet arrived at the scene and that they followed protocol. "The baby was crying and breathing, which was a relief for us," says Gasso. "So we just kind of concentrated on what we were trained to do and we did it." Gasso says the baby was born onto a mattress, and that both child and mother are in good condition.
