Three Stratford High School students are facing criminal charges after they were involved in a fight on school grounds, police say.
The fight broke out last Friday inside the school cafeteria as some 200 students were finishing their lunch break, and another 150 students were entering to start theirs.
According to Principal Margaret Lasek, one of the students pushed another, and a fight ensued. Officers from the Stratford Police Department arrived at the scene to find one of the teens lying on the ground. He was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, where doctors kept him overnight.
Police investigated the incident, and as a result two teenagers involved in the brawl that allegedly broke out over a girl were charged with assault and breach of peace. A third student who wouldn't cooperate with officers was also cited for interfering with police. If convicted, the teens could face one year in jail.
Lasek says for the time being, all three students have been suspended. Later, the Board of Education will decide whether the three will be expelled from school.
