Bridgeport police are investigating a large fight that broke out at Bassick High School Friday.
Investigators say the incident started around noon in the school's cafeteria, then spilled out between the campus' two main buildings.
Authorities arrested nine students involved in the fight. Those students have also been suspended by the school.
Two school security guards were taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center and treated for their injuries.
Police say it is not clear what caused the fight, but they say there have been ongoing rivalries between different groups from opposite sides of the city.
They believe the tension between those groups may have contributed to the frenzied atmosphere on campus.
As they continue their investigation, school officials say they'll do everything in their power to make sure this doesn't happen again.
