Residents in Trumbull gathered on the Town Hall Green for a rally against racism Saturday.
Organizers say the event was planned this month so it would mark a year since the death of George Floyd.
Saige Annakie spoke at the rally to tell her first experience of racism, which happened when she was 6 years old.
"My message today was just to make it clear that racism does in fact happen in Trumbull," she said. "In first grade, I was referred to by the n-word by a fellow student."
Annakie and other speakers said there has been inches of progress made since last year, but there is still more that needs to be done, including changes to the education system and policing.
