After decades of disagreement, a deal has been reached between Sikorsky Airport and the Town of Stratford.

The agreement ends a nearly 50-year-long dispute over runway length and flooding issues.

Under the agreement, the airport, which is owned by the Town of Bridgeport, will never extend its runways beyond their current lengths and will transfer part of the airport property to the town, to help mitigate flooding issues. In return, Main Street will be slightly moved to facilitate the construction of a runway buffer zone.

The proposal has already been approved by Bridgeport officials, but must still be approved by the Stratford Town Council.
