All 12 of New Jersey’s congressional districts hold primary elections

Tuesday was Primary Election Day in New Jersey, and all 12 of the state’s congressional districts held races.
Longtime 4th District Rep. Chris Smith won the nomination for a 22nd term in Congress. He faced two challengers, Steve Gray and Mike Crispi. Gray and Crispi are supporters of former President Donald Trump. Trump targeted Smith for supporting President Joe Biden’s infrastructure plan.
Robert Menendez, Jr., son of Sen. Bob Menendez, won the Democratic nomination for the 8th Congressional District. Political experts say that it would be very difficult for a Republican to defeat Menendez, Jr., so it seems that the father and son will be serving together in Congress next year.
Many people were watching it the 5th District race for the Republican nominee to challenge Democratic Rep. Josh Gottheimer.
There are four Republican candidates running in the 5th District – Frank Pallotta, Nick De Gregorio, Sab Skenderi and Fred Schneiderman. Bergen County GOP leaders are backing De Gregorio in this race.
A clear winner was not determined as of 10:30 p.m.
