? Norwalk police Sgt. Stephen Couture testified in his own defense before a police trial board at City Hall Tuesday.
Couture is accused of breaking department policies by telling former police lieutenant Thomas Cummings he was under investigation for allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old boy.
Couture acknowledges he told Cummings about the investigation on Oct. 26, but said that?s typical in internal affairs investigations like this one.
Couture says he didn?t go to the chief because Senior Assistant State?s Attorney Rich Colangelo told him to wait. However, Couture admitted he didn?t tell Colangelo about his conversation with Cummings.
A lawyer for the department says that since Cummings held a higher rank, Couture should not have told him about the investigation.
The hearing resumes on Sept. 3.
