While “No Kings” rallies are taking place across Long Island and the nation in protest of President Donald Trump, a rally in Huntington Station is focused on the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) presence in the community that has generated uneasiness over the past week.
Opponents of President Trump’s administration are set to rally in hundreds of cities today during the military parade in Washington to mark the Army’s 250th anniversary, which coincides with Trump’s birthday. Protestors in Huntington Station say they want agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement out of their community.
ICE has confirmed it is actively investigating alleged immigration crimes here on Long Island. As News 12 has reported, Port Washington police say ICE agents arrested two people on Thursday, and the arrests are related to other unspecified crimes.
Earlier this week, a Brentwood man told News 12 that he was detained by ICE agents during a traffic stop in Westbury even though he says he is a U.S. citizen.
The organizers of the rally in Huntington Station say ICE is violating people's civil rights.
"It's like they're on a hunt. Our community is being terrorized and that's got to stop today. It's got to stop now. This is the beginning. We are not going to stop. We are going to continue to fight for our community," said Pilar Moya, a rally organizer.
People at the rally marched through Huntington Station and ended at the Huntington Manor Fire Department.
