Antisemitic graffiti was discovered Wednesday morning at the Department of Transportation campus building in Newington.
It was discovered in a bathroom.
In a letter to staff, Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto wrote that although they know it happened in the morning, officials "do not know who had the audacity to do something like this to try and create a hostile work environment at CTDOT."
Eucalitto also wrote that antisemitism, and hate and bigotry will not be tolerated at agency.
He added it is up to staff to stand up to this type of behavior.
The agency's internal security personnel are conducting an investigation to identify who would have been in the area when the vandalism happened.
Officials say there is not an active police investigation.
