Police in Stamford released surveillance video of a man snatching an iPhone out of a woman's purse as he rode by on his bicycle.

Police say it's a popular new crime known as "Apple Picking," and it's on the rise in southwestern Connecticut. They say it usually happens to women when they are walking down the street and texting on their iPhones.

The incident in the surveillance video is from North State and Canal streets. Authorities say another hot spot is the Stamford train station.

Investigators say they've made some arrests of "Apple Pickers" in our area, but there are more out there. They urge would-be victims to get descriptions of assailants and call police immediately.
