Are you a good driver? Well, it seems as though more people are failing their road tests this year.

Last year, the Department of Motor Vehicles reported that 37.6 % of residents failed their road test. This year, 42.4 % didn't make the cut.

The DMV says in Brooklyn, nearly 55% of people failed their road test. This year, 56.2 % didn't pass, either. It's a significant increase since the pandemic and one driving advisor Juan Cabrera says is avoidable with more lessons and practice.

"Whoever can give you a couple of lessons, always go to a school first because we have a brake on that side, and we can stop the car. Your uncle doesn't have a brake. He don't want you to crash his car," said Cabrera.

The DMV says standards are the same. They tell News 12 it's important that for safety, qualified drivers pass.

The DMV adds that if customers of certain driving schools are not prepared, they challenge instructors to do better.
