A Connecticut attorney says George Floyd's death is still resonating with people and that something needs to be done about police brutality.
Antonio Ponvert at Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder in Bridgeport has gone up against some of the biggest police departments in the state, including Bridgeport and the state police, regarding police brutality.
He says he is encouraged that the protests may bring about some change.
Ponvert says we still need law enforcement, but that qualified immunity has tilted the law in favor of police. He says many of his civil rights cases have had mixed results because even juries have sided with police.
The executive director of Council 4, a union representing 30,000 workers in state and local government, said in a statement sent to News 12 Connecticut, "If ever there was a time for conversation about racism, economic inequality and health disparities, it is now."
Ponvert wants to stress that there a lot of good police officers out there, but says a select few need to be held accountable.
