A woman and her 5-year-old daughter died after being swept away at Swollen River on Tuesday evening.
State police say 39-year-old Norwich resident Kelly Dora and her daughter, Aralye McKeever, were swimming in the Shetucket River near River Park in Sprague when they were dragged down the river by the current.
Authorities are now urging residents to stay out of the Swollen River waters.
State police say they do not suspect foul play and they are treating the deaths as untimely.
They also say the Shetucket and other rivers in Connecticut have been running well above normal levels due to recent heavy rains over the past week.
