Police and SWAT personnel remained on the scene of a standoff in Baychester Tuesday night as a retired corrections officer was barricaded inside his home.
The NYPD, SWAT personnel and hostage negotiators responded to 2410 Eastchester Road Tuesday afternoon after Joe Principe, a retired corrections officer and military veteran, barricaded himself.
According to authorities, Principe hung an American flag upside down in his window, the universal symbol for distress. Officials say he threatened to blow up the house if authorities tried to enter.
Several streets were closed surrounding Eastchester Road by Pelham Parkway as a result of the situation.
