The Connecticut chief medical examiner's office has ruled the fatal shootings of a Bridgeport mother and daughter a homicide-suicide.
Police were called to the Bridgeport home on Burnsford Avenue after shots were heard at around 3:30 in the afternoon Monday. An autopsy performed Tuesday found that Ann Marie Rino, 48, died from a gunshot wound to the chest and ruled her death a suicide.
Gabriella Marin Rino, 8, was fatally shot in the head. The medical examiner says her death is a homicide.
Neighbors and friends started a memorial in front of the home, leaving flowers and candles for the young girl. "My son wanted to leave a stuffed animal for her," says Nikeia Sawyer, whose son was in the same third-grade class as Gabriella.
Bridgeport police say Ann Marie left a suicide note written to several people and that the gun she used was from her home.
