A 140-foot barge that had been stuck in the Norwalk River
since Saturday was freed, and the waterway reopened Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, a crane barge unloaded gravel from the barge onto an empty one.
Officials had said once the gravel had been unloaded, it would be easier for the barge to float and be pulled freed by a tugboat.
The barge had been stuck in the river and had blocked access to and from the Norwalk Boat Club.
It became lodged while delivering 1,600 tons of gravel to Devine Brothers.
