Baychester Community Board members say they are focused on preserving the ecology of their neighborhood as the Bronx develops.
Board members say the preservation of more than 35 acres of parks is one of their greatest successes.
?We know that the Bronx is being revitalized, so with all these new structures we need to keep as many of the natural spaces as we can,? Vice-chair Father Richard Gorman says.
As Baychester?s population grows, the board says they?re working on ?smart development? and only green-lighting urban growth that doesn?t risk losing any of Baychester?s distinctive character.
?When you lose your roots, you lose your soul,? says Gorman.
Census statistics say Baychester is one of the largest Bronx communities.
