Beardsley Zoo helps animals cope during heat wave
Knox said zoo staff work around the clock during extreme heat to make sure the animals have cool water and a special diet - including frozen treats.

Jim Knox, a zoologist at Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport, understands the vital role climate plays in maintaining animals' health.
"We have to make sure each of them is staying hydrated and has 24/7 access to an indoor space, where the temperature and humidity can be carefully regulated - for their comfort and overall health," Knox told News 12 Wednesday.
Knox said zoo staff work around the clock during extreme heat to make sure the animals have cool water and a special diet - including frozen treats.
"We are entrusted with the critically important task of keeping our residents, many of whom are vulnerable, healthy and happy - and we tend to that task with a deep sense of responsibility and appreciation for these wonderful creatures," Knox said.
