'Still many challenges.' Community raising money for man seriously injured in Bridgeport construction accident
A GoFundMe started by a family member says Bauer was operating an excavator when a large turbine fell and severely damaged the cab of the machine he was in.
The community is rallying around the family of a man who was badly injured in a construction accident in Bridgeport on Sept. 17.
Union officials say Tim Bauer is recovering after the accident at the former Harbor Station Power Plant demolition site.
A GoFundMe started by a family member says Bauer was operating an excavator when a large turbine fell and severely damaged the cab of the machine he was in. Bauer was trapped for hours until emergency crews were finally able to extricate him.
While most of his upper body made it through, Bauer's lower legs and feet were badly injured.
The GoFundMe says he's now facing a left foot amputation and possibly even more procedures in the coming days and weeks.
As of Tuesday night, over 100 people had donated to raise more than $13,000 for Bauer and his family.
The organizer of the fundraising effort says donations will help cover medical expenses and help the family pay its bills while Bauer is out of work and recovering.
"There are still many challenges ahead," IUOE Local 478 wrote in a social media post. "We know Tim’s spirit, along with his family’s dedication and love, will get them through."
