State lawmakers introduced a bill that would help rein in the power of artificial intelligence.
It would require additional transparency about when and how tech companies use people's personal data.
State Sen. James Maroney (D-Milford) says unchecked AI has the ability to discriminate people for housing, health care and jobs.
"There's hiring algorithms. There's a recent lawsuit settled by iTutor. iTutor's algorithm wouldn't hire you. If you were over 55 and a woman, you would not get hired to be a tutor," he said.
Gov. Ned Lamont has said that over regulating AI could drive tech companies out of the state.
