State biologists were on the Long Island Sound Monday to investigate why the Sound's lobster population has seen a steep decline in the past decade. Biologists say the population has been dropping in abundance since 1999. Experts are exploring whether warmer water temperatures or usage of pesticides are to blame. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says the lobster population was around 3.7 million pounds in 1998 and has fallen to 142,000 pounds in 2011.
