People gathered in Bridgeport Tuesday to watch as a Black Lives Matter flag was hoisted over the replica of the Amistad ship.
The Amistad ship is known for being the sign of an uprising by enslaved people in the 1800s. The uprising began in the waters off Long Island, but a group of survivors was apprehended and jailed in Connecticut until its case reached the U.S. Supreme Court.
The foundation that runs the Amistad for trips and events says due to COVID-19 the sailing season has been short. The foundation says it's planning new trips and events that focus on the history of civil rights for next year.
