A disabled Bridgeport man was honored for mentoring young people and helping them do their best.
Nate Barnes, 42, is a blind musician who teaches music and volunteers at local nonprofit organizations.
"People helped me along, so I believe you have to pass it back to others," he says.
In a ceremony at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Mayor Joe Ganim singled Barnes out for his years of service to the local community.
"If we could all take his example and employ some of the things he does with his life into our lives, we'd bring more joy into the world and make it a better world and a better community," says Mayor Ganim.
Barnes graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston and has performed at venues around the world.
