(04/10/06) STRATFORD ? Police say a bloody palm print lifted from the scene of a 2001 Stratford murder led to the arrest of a suspect Monday.
Bridgeport resident Michael McClendon, 27, was charged in connection with the murder of 21-year-old Shani Baldwin. The pregnant victim was found in her home bound, raped and stabbed. Investigators also found her 2-year-old daughter in the home unharmed.
When McClendon was charged last August in an unrelated larceny case, his palm print was entered into a Connecticut forensic system. Investigators say they were then able to match the print to the Baldwin crime scene. Detectives working the case say they knew all along the killer would be brought to justice. McClendon is being held on $500,000 bond.
