Sen. Richard Blumenthal criticized a memo that allegedly tells ICE officers they can forcibly enter homes without a judicial warrant.
According to Blumenthal, a Democrat, the memo says ICE agents are allowed to forcibly enter a person's home using an administrative warrant if a judge has issued a final order of removal.
He says the practice is an illegal departure from constitutional norms and is calling on the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, to take immediate action.
"It is shocking, it is unacceptable, and I have asked the head of the agency, Kristi Noem, as well as the head of ICE, to renounce this policy, because it authorizes unconstitutional searches and seizures, in violation of the Fourth Amendment," Blumenthal said.
