The Bridgeport Board of Education is considering a plan to make elementary students walk longer distances to school.
A public forum on the topic was held at the Waltersville School on Monday.
Members say they are considering increasing the busing distance from one mile to 1.5 miles.
If the change is implemented, they say the district could save nearly $1.6 million in transportation costs.
Officials say the money saved could be used toward keeping kindergarten aides from being cut.
The board held an additional forum at the Read School Tuesday night and will hold another forum at the Winthrop school on Wednesday evening.
