Police in Monroe say an 11-year-old boy is recovering after accidentally being shot in the face by his father.
Police say the boy's father, Vincent Pizzolato, was putting his gun away at his Partridge Road home when it went off. The bullet went through a wall and struck the boy in the cheek as he was sitting on the couch. The incident occurred at around 3:30 p.m.
The boy was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Police Capt. Michael Flick says the case is being reviewed by the State's Attorney Office. He says Pizzolato could face reckless endangerment charges.
Flick is offering ways of boosting gun-storage safety in the wake of the shooting. He says to never store ammunition next to a gun, and to always point the barrel in a safe direction.
Residents can also pick up free gun locks at the Monroe Police Department.
