Frozen waffles sold under various brand names and distributed nationwide at retailers including Stop & Shop, Target, Walmart and Aldi have been recalled due to potential listeria contamination, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
TreeHouse Foods, Inc. issued the voluntary recall after routine testing at the manufacturing facility detected listeria monocytogenes. According to the FDA, listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. In healthy people, listeria can lead to short-term symptoms such as high fever, nausea, stiffness, severe headache, diarrhea and abdominal pain.
The recall impacts frozen waffle products sold under several major retail brands including Aldi's Breakfast Best, Walmart's Great Value, Stop & Shop brand and Target's Good & Gather.
To date, there have been no confirmed illnesses linked to the recalled products, the FDA says. Those who have consumed the affected frozen waffles and have experienced symptoms of listeria are urged to contact their health care provider.
The FDA urges consumers to check their freezers for any of the products listed in the recall and either throw them out or return them to the place of purchase.
