The Hartford HealthCare Women's Championship kicked off Tuesday in Milford with a strong focus on cancer care.
Hartford HealthCare is providing free health screenings to EPSON Tour players, including breast and skin cancer exams, along with blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose testing.
The effort highlights EPSON Tour player Kim Kaufman, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
"We are here to educate players, we are here to perform assessments to help guide players to determine when and how they should get screened for breast cancer, and we'll also be performing breast exams for all the players who are here today," said Dr. Valerie Brutus, director of breast surgery at Hartford HealthCare.
Kaufman said the goal is to "make all of these girls specially aware, who are young and think that it can't happen to them but it obviously can, and anyone in the community that comes out hopefully go get your check and go have your yearly physical and you just do your due diligence."
The EPSON Tour is the official qualifying tour of the LPGA Tour.
