The Bridgeport City Council has approved a slimmed down budget for the next fiscal year.
The new budget will increase taxes for residents by about $230.
The budget will also increase education spending by $5 million over last year while eliminating 26 city employee positions.
The approved budget came after Mayor Bill Finch and the council reached a compromise to cut nearly $9 million from the previous budget proposal.
