A Bridgeport area has seen a trend of scary events continue with an armed robbery at a gas station on the Upper East Side.
Bridgeport police say the Valero Station on Huntington Turnpike was robbed by two men around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. They say the men took $5,000 in cash from both registers.
"Could have got shot and killed," Bridgeport's Fernando Vargas told News 12.
Vargas was in the station, which he frequents every day, when one of the two men put a gun at his head and threw him to the floor.
The incident at the Valero station marked the third crime within the five-block area along Huntington Turnpike between East Main and Evers streets since the spring. On May 28, a 30-year-old woman was found shot to death on Knoll Place. And 13 days later, a man was shot on Priscilla Circle while protesting alleged illegal racing.
"It's troubling because I've had more issues and complaints about this five-block radius than my entire rest of my district combined,” said City Council Member Maria Pereira. "This crime spree that’s kind of occurred this year in this small area is so unusual for the Thomas Hooker Precinct."
