The Bridgeport Diocese released updated guidance Wednesday on mask-wearing in church settings.
The update follows the city of Bridgeport's new mask mandate, which went into effect at midnight. It requires all people in indoor public spaces to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status.
The diocese said parishes in communities with indoor masks mandates are expected to comply.
Bishop Frank J. Caggiano's letter today said church officials should inform parishioners to bring masks to use when they enter parish facilities.
In areas where there is not a mask mandate, Caggiano said parishioners who are not vaccinated are required to wear masks, including during Mass. Those who are vaccinated can wear masks during Mass but are not required to in these areas.
