Police in Bridgeport are calling a local dog a hero today after it helped save a man's life while out on a walk.
Kimberly Johnson, 20, and her mother are very proud today. They say their 1-year-old German Shepherd named Apollo saved a man's life on Saturday in Beardsley Park.
The family says the dog was walking off-leash down by the water when he began barking loudly to get their attention.
The family says Apollo had sniffed out a man who was lying out of view in the woods.
Police say the man was suffering from a severe medical condition and urgently needed emergency care.
The family says they immediately called 911.
Police say the sick man was taken to the hospital where he was treated and later released.
