A Bridgeport family was reunited with their lost dog nearly a year after he went missing in Ocean City, Maryland, while on vacation.
When the 2-year-old Boston terrier named Fisher went missing on July Fourth, 2020, Elissa Battista wasn't sure she would ever see him again.
Battista says she kept hope her family dog would be found. The answer to that hope came in a Facebook message this week.
It is a reunion 290 days in the making.
Battista says someone was setting off fireworks when she thinks Fisher pushed open a screen door in the home without anyone seeing.
Battista says she hired a dog tracker and started a Facebook group called "Find Fisher" the day after he went missing.
For the last nine months, she says someone has reached out daily asking if she found Fisher or if other dogs that resembled Fisher were the missing dog.
However, it never was Fisher. But this week when Battista received a picture of a dog, and she knew right away it was Fisher.
The pup was taken in by a good Samaritan an hour and a half away from Ocean City, where he was wandering the streets of Baltimore.
After a five-hour drive of worrying he wouldn't remember her, those fears were quickly put to rest.
How Fisher spent those last 290 days, no one will ever know. But Battista has an idea.
"I'm hoping he was playing and had a good time and broke out and was like I had enough, I want to go home to mom and dad," she says.
