A Bridgeport man was charged with manslaughter in the death of his 10-month-old son Friday.
According to Bridgeport police, Derrick Siberon, 30, turned himself in Thursday and was arrested on charges of first-degree manslaughter and risk of injury to a minor.
The baby, Donovan, was found unresponsive at the family's home inside a Greene Homes apartment back on April 24. He was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, and then transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital where he died the next day.
A relative told News 12 that Donovan was the light of his mother's life.
According to Police Chief AJ Perez, the baby suffered head injuries and a detached cornea. How the child died is still unclear. The death was ruled a homicide by the state medical examiner.
Perez says the most difficult part of an officer's job is dealing with the death of a child.
"This part of the job I try to file in up here and not open those doors," says Perez. "Nothing justifies what happens here, it's just a sad ending to a sad and tragic story."
Siberon is being held on $250,000 bail.
