A Bridgeport man whose entire family was hospitalized after their car was struck is speaking publicly for the first time.
Jarrod Masheck, 35, was involved in a three-car accident almost three weeks ago that sent 11 people to the hospital. His family was on the way home from a family outing when a vehicle slammed into them, and also hit a second car.
Masheck's wife, 32-year-old Unique Lopez, spent days in critical condition at Yale New Haven Hospital. Masheck says his wife is still in a rehab hospital.
Though he and his three sons are home now, 7-year-old Sammy remains in a wheelchair and is facing a long recuperation. Jarrod Masheck Jr., 9, broke several bones in his face and suffered other serious inuries. Their 4-year-old also suffered broken bones.
Masheck says he is haunted by flashbacks of the incident.
"Once the thought crosses my mind, I can feel us getting hit all over again," says Masheck. "I can hear my son screaming in the back, I can see my wife actually pulling herself out of the windshield that she was stuck in. It's very traumatizing."
Masheck says he is frustrated the driver who plowed into his family has not been charged.
Police say what caused the driver to careen out of control is still under investigation.
