A Bridgeport food pantry is considering a decrease in service because of a lack of donations and an increase in demand, officials say.
Bishop Jean Williams Food Pantry on the city's West End serves thousands of families, seniors, and people with disabilities.
Chief Development Officer Johnny Ray Moore says the demand for food has skyrocketed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
The pantry says it needs $25,000 in the short term to continue feeding people.
Moore says since donations are down with fewer people giving financial support at the operation's associated online church services, it's not clear if the food pantry can keep up with the current demand.
Executive director Mary Green says it would create a severe hardship for the city of Bridgeport if their food pantry were to slash its services.
Officials say while they need $25,000 in the short term, they will need twice the amount to feed people in the next several months.
