The Southwestern Connecticut Grizzlies football team received a big boost in funding from the state on Wednesday.
The Bridgeport-based team gives community college students a chance to compete, hopefully paving the way for them to get into a four-year college or university. It competes against other college club teams in the Northeast.
Now that the team has an extra $7,000 in state funding, players are aiming to keep their winning momentum going.
Since the team's inception six years ago, 35 players have gone on to play football and continue their educations at four-year schools, according to the coach. He also says the team has been undefeated for the past two years.
