Bridgeport group calls on lawmakers to ‘STOP’ illegal evictions targeting people of color

A member of the groups tells News 12 that mortgage companies buy tax liens from Bridgeport and then collect payments from the homeowner in bad faith. They do not tell the homeowners that they intend to sell the property at auction.

A group in Bridgeport is calling on the city to stop what they say are illegal eviction that are targeting people of color.
The grouped called “STOP” or “Stop Targeting Oppressed People” says the practice targets seniors and people of color.
A member of the groups tells News 12 that mortgage companies buy tax liens from Bridgeport and then collect payments from the homeowner in bad faith.
They do not tell the homeowners that they intend to sell the property at auction.
STOP says the practice needs to be banned by legislators.
