A group in Bridgeport is calling on the city to stop what they say are illegal
eviction that are targeting people of color.
The grouped called “STOP” or “Stop Targeting Oppressed People” says the
practice targets seniors and people of color.
A member of the groups tells News 12 that mortgage companies buy tax liens from
Bridgeport and then collect payments from the homeowner in bad faith.
They do
not tell the homeowners that they intend to sell the property at auction.
STOP says the practice needs to be banned by legislators.
