Bridgeport firefighters on Friday remembered two of their own who were killed in the line of duty.
Every year, Bridgeport firefighters pay tribute to Lt. Steven Velasquez and firefighter Michel Baik. The two were killed on July 24, 2010, while battling a house fire on Elmwood Avenue.
Memorial services were held at Saint Ann's Church. Friends, family and fellow firefighters later attended a memorial at the firehouse on Ocean Avenue, where both men were stationed.
Firefighters say they recently imprinted the names of Velasquez and Baik on the Ladder 11 fire engine. They say it's to remind their members of the ultimate sacrifice the two made.
The gesture is the kind of support that Baik's widow Laurie says has been crucial to her healing.
"We've become an almost deeper family through this," she says.
Officials say Velasquez left behind a wife and two children. Baik left behind a wife and three children.
