A man from Bridgeport accused of killing his neighbor after an argument between their families appeared in court this morning.
Waldo "Abel" Gonzalez has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting earlier this summer of Ronald Simmons.
Family and friends of Simmons want justice, and say they will be in the courthouse every time Gonzalez faces a judge in court until the case wraps up.
Police found Simmons shot to death in the early morning hours on Norman Street, near Fremont Street, back on July 2.
It wasn't until a couple weeks ago that police arrested Gonzalez, Simmons' neighbor.
According to police, the shooting was the result of some kind of dispute between the two men's families. Court documents show that on the night of his death, Simmons was trying to protect his stepdaughter after Gonzalez's wife and daughters physically attacked her. Police say Gonzalez fired one shot as he pushed the women away.
Gonzalez's wife and two daughters were also arrested in the incident, and they face lesser charges.
Simmons' wife says she wants all of them to serve time.
"I'm just hurt, like I'm beyond hurt," says Shawanda Simmons. "My heart is broken. My husband was a good man, a great father. Our life has been ruined, turned upside down due to this."
