A Bridgeport man has been charged in the 2019 death of a 4-month-old baby girl in New Haven, officials announced Monday.
Angel Rodriguez, 35, is being charged with first-degree manslaughter and risk of injury.
Police say they were called back on Nov. 8, 2019 for a report of an unresponsive baby. She was treated at the scene by EMS before being transported to Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital, where she was in critical condition.
The child died two days later. An autopsy revealed that the baby had died due to blunt impact injury of the head and neck, and the medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.
Police say the child's mother told them she left her in the care of Rodriguez while she went to work, and Rodriguez said the baby was acting normal.
He says he then called 911 after finding the child on her stomach, face down on a bed, blue and cold to the touch.
The arrest warrant says Rodriguez was the only other person home at the time of the baby's death.
Rodriguez is being held on $500,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 19.
