A Bridgeport family is grieving after their loved one was shot to death on his 37th birthday.
Police say they arrived at Edwin Street and Stratford Avenue around 3 a.m. to find Chaz Rogers shot several times – at least once to the head. He was rushed to Bridgeport Hospital where he was pronounced dead an hour and a half later.
Police Chief AJ Perez says investigators have singled out a small number of suspects in the case.
"We'll have an apprehension soon. I can guarantee that," he says.
It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting.
Rogers' friend Brushaun Baker called the shooting death "tragic" and described him as a gentle and caring man.
"I'm literally at a loss for words. We were just together last week, I've known him for some time and I only have positive things to say about him. This is such a huge loss that this community is suffering right now," he told News 12.
Bridgeport police are asking anyone with information about the fatal shooting to call them.
