Bridgeport marks emergency preparedness month
September is National Emergency Preparedness Month and Bridgeport officials want to make sure residents know what to do in the event of one.
Bridgeport officials recommend that families update their emergency kits with batteries, flashlights, non-perishable food and water.
It’s also important for families to know where to go if an emergency happens.
Scott Appleby, of Bridgeport Emergency Management, says, “Any type of emergency affects us, affects all of us and whether it’s a fire, a public safety event, where it’s a special event, hurricanes, tornados, it’s all going to impact us, it’s always going to impact us, it’s always going to be around, so the best bet is make sure you're prepared.”
Officials also advise people to have a plan for pets and the elderly.
