The city of Bridgeport got a new mascot on Sunday.
Mayor Joe Ganim officially adopted 1-year-old Duke from Bridgeport Animal Control.
Ganim says the Wheaton Terrier took to him immediately and "it was love at first lick."
The mayor says he met Duke while promoting a new city program that allows Bridgeport employees to volunteer at the Animal Shelter.
"They cleaned him up, brought him over here and he's now become the mascot of City Hall and the Mayor's Office," he says. "He loves it. We'll use him when we go out and talking to kids, and he's got a home."
Ganim says there is no greater gift than opening your home and heart to a dog or cat in need of a family.
