Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim announced plans Sunday to lure film and TV productions to the Park City as a way of stimulating the local economy.
Ganim made the announcement at the site of a film that was under production in downtown Bridgeport.
Actor and producer Justin Royce, who was born and raised in Bridgeport, says he is proud to be making big-budget movies that feature well-known actors.
"What I've done is assemble a team. We wrote our own movies, we make our own music, and create a culture in and of the Connecticut area, and we are going to put it on the world stage," Royce said.
"The film industry in Bridgeport creates jobs, creates opportunities, and Connecticut used to have incentives -- a tax-free plan -- that would occur to give benefits to filmmakers, and I would like to revisit that happening," Ganim said.
"Bridgeport: The Movie" will star Jamal Woolard, who rose to fame in the hit movie "Notorious" about the legendary rapper Notorious B.I.G.
